Alakai's CEO, Dendy Young, Attends NVTC
Executive Visit to Policymakers in Richmond
February 10, 2011
As the 2011 General Assembly session approached the halfway point last
week, members of NVTC's Board of Directors and the NVTC TechPAC Board
of Trustees, including Alakai CEO, Dendy Young, spent a day in Richmond
to discuss NVTC's legislative priorities with policymakers. The group
participates in legislative meetings with Speaker Bill Howell (R-Fredericksburg)
and Senate Majority Leader Dick Saslaw (D-Fairfax), as well as Delegate
Ben Cline (R-Amherst), Delegate Barbara Comstock (R-McLean), Delegate
Tag Greason (R-Sterling), Senator Mark Herring (D-Leesburg), Senator
Janet Howel (D-Reston), Delegate Tim Hugo (R-Fairfax), Delegate Mark
Keam (D-Vienna), Delegate Joe May (R-Leesburg) and Delegate Jackson
Miller (R-Manassas).
The delegation also attended a meeting of the Senate Finance Committee's
Subcommittee on Education where NVTC President and CEO Bobbie Kilberg
testified in support of the Virginia Higher Education Opportunity Act
of 2011. This legislation represents a first step on the path to adding
more than 100,000 Virginians with college degrees to the workforce over
the next 15 years; places an emphasis on science, technology, engineering,
math, healthcare and other high-demand subjects; and promotes affordable
access to education through key reforms to promote long-term affordability.
